چکیده

The removal of H2S in high performance biotrickling filters was investigated using a differential biotrickling filter. The differential biotrickling filter was designed to reach high gas velocities through a minature packed bed, in this case a single 4-cm open-pore polyurethane foam cube. External mass transfer was limiting below air velocities of 3000–4000 m h−1, with possible other parameters such as biological kinetics or diffusion-controlled performance above 4000 m h−1. The effect of the liquid trickling rate on H2S elimination was found to be nil at low gas velocity, and significant at high gas velocity, consistent with speculations on the wetting of the packing and the rate-limiting step at the conditions of the experiments. The effect of additions of various species of sulfur on H S treatment was investigated. Sulfide negatively

Removal of H2S from Synthetic Waste Gas Streams Using a Biotrickling Filter

The removal of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) from airstreams was studied in a biotrickling filter packed with porous lava as a carrier of Thiobacillus thioparus (DSM5368) with counter current flows of the air and liquid streams. The effect of operating parameters on biotrickling filter performance was studied. Experiments were performed at different empty bed residence times (9-60 sec), and...

Conversion of Full-Scale Wet Scrubbers to Biotrickling Filters for H2S Control at Publicly Owned Treatment Works

Until recently, biological treatment of odors in biofilters or biotrickling filters was thought to require a longer gas contact time than chemical scrubbing, hence bioreactors for air treatment required a larger footprint. This paper discusses the conversion of chemical scrubbers to biological trickling filters. Initially, research was conducted with a laboratory-scale biotrickling filter. An e...

The present paper evaluates the technical and economical feasibility of converting wet chemical scrubbers to biotrickling filters for H2S control at the Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD), California. Results of 8 months of continuous operation of a biotrickling filter treating 16,000 m3 h–1 of foul air are analyzed. The reactor was operated at a gas contact time of 1.6 to 2.2 seconds rea...

Co-treatment of H2S and toluene in a biotrickling filter

Biological treatment is an emerging technology for the treatment of publicly owned treatment works (POTWs) off-gases. Most of POTWs off-gases contain H2S and a wide range of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Since co-treatment of odors and VOCs in biotrickling filters is a relatively unexplored area, the simultaneous biotreatment of H2S and toluene (as the model VOC) was investigated. The expe...

شناسایی میکروارگانیسم‌های غالب بیوفیلتر چکنده در تصفیه هوای آلوده به فرمالدوئید و اتانول

Introduction: Identification of degrading microorganisms of toxic materials is regarded as an important step to complete air treatment systems. Effective microorganisms in treatment and elimination of pollutants seems to be different depending on the type of pollutants as well as environmental conditions. Identification of these microorganisms can determine optimum conditions for the system per...
